Janet Hannigan

About

Janet Hannigan is a classically trained fine artist who received her BFA from Parsons School of Design in New York City. Janet’s unique painting style reflects a technique she learned while at Parson’s of layering acrylic washes to create depth and detail. This is the perfect medium for capturing the power, intensity and beauty of horse racing.

Janet’s focus on equine art is the result of her merging her interest in anatomy with her love of horses, particularly horse racing. Growing up on Long Island, Janet frequently visited Belmont Park, where she became intrigued by the relationship between the jockeys and horses. Janet was drawn to all aspects of life at the track, from the paddock to “riders up”, the post parade and of course the thundering excitement of the race itself.  Members of the racing community at Belmont took notice of Janet’s artwork and she was honored to be featured in a one woman show at the track as well as have her artwork added to the permanent collection for the owner’s club.

During Janet’s career she has received awards in juried shows from the Art League of Nassau County and has had her artwork featured in galleries on Long Island and Saratoga. Her artwork is also popular in Ireland, where she’s been featured at galleries, private auctions and has paintings proudly gracing the lobby of the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen.
